Support workers in the Saanich School District in British Columbia have been on strike for three weeks. According to CTV News, a sticking point in what have been described as intense bargaining sessions has been wage parity with the support workers in Saanich receiving much less compensation than workers in neighboring school districts.
Saanich teachers have honored the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 411 picket line meaning schools in the district have been effectively closed since October 28. Parents and students have been showing up to the picket lines to support the workers with more rallies planned for the future.
