Mount Allison University Strike Ends

The three-week strike at Mount Allison University has ended and teachers and students are back in the classroom today. Over the weekend the Mount Allison Faculty Association and the university administration met with a provincial mediator and have agreed to have outstanding issues settled by binding arbitration.

Strike Ends at University of New Brunswick

The strike at the University of New Brunswick has ended. The university administration and the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers reached a tentative deal with the help of a government-appointed mediator. Classes are set to resume on Monday.

Strike Update - Mount Allison University

Faculty and librarians at Mount Allison University, who have been on strike since Monday, were joined on the picket line yesterday by faculty members from across the country as well as students from their own institution. The Canadian Association of University Teachers was also present to lend their support, presenting the Mount Allison Faculty Association with a $1 million check.

Mediator Appointed at UNB

New Brunswick's minister of labour and postsecondary education has ordered the administration and the faculty association at the University of New Brunswick back to the bargaining table, this time with a mediator.The announcement comes two weeks after librarians and other faculty went on strike.

Strike at Mount Allison University

Classes have been cancelled at Mount Allison University as faculty and librarians at that institution have gone on strike. The Mount Allison Faculty Association had been negotiating with university administration on issues including workload, salaries, academic freedom, pensions, and benefits up until the strike deadline.

It is important to note that on the Mount Allison University website, it states that although classes have been cancelled:

"All other services at the University continue to operate as usual, including residences, the dining hall, the student centre, the athletic centre, and the library."

Asserting that the library can operate as usual with librarians on the picket lines demonstrates a lack of understanding and respect for the work that librarians do. Unfortunately, Mount Allison University is not alone in expressing this sentiment. University of New Brunswick Strike Update

The strike at the University of New Brunswick has entered its second week as the union representing faculty and librarians have yet to reach an agreement with the university's administration. Support for the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers has come from across Canada, with professors from universities and colleges in Ontario, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and other parts of New Brunswick joining strikers in Fredericton, NB for a rally. During the rally, the Canadian Association of University Teachers presented the union with a $1 million check which will go towards strike pay.

Strike Vote at Mount Allison University

Members of the Mount Allison Faculty Association, the union representing librarians and faculty at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, have voted in favour of strike action if an agreement is not soon reached with university administration. The union cites academic freedom, workload, salaries, and benefits as some of the items of concern.

Strike at University of New Brunswick

Librarians and other academic staff represented by the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers have gone on strike after failing to come to an agreement with administration on key issues of pay and workload. Classes will not be held for the duration of the strike.
