The newly formed University of Chicago Labor Council rallied on the campus's main quad on May Day, the school's student paper The Chicago Maroon reports, to speak out for labor rights in the greater Chicago area and to call on the University to recognize the Graduate Student Union (GSU) which graduate students voted to form almost two years ago.
Members of the university's many unions turned out for the 200 person demonstration including members of the GSU, National Nurses United, SEIU Local 1, Teamsters Local 743, IBEW Local 134, Bakery Confectionery Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union, Flood's Hall, Tenants United, Chicago Jobs with Justice, and the Greater Chicago Industrial Workers of the World.
