Verdi, Germany's second largest labor union, called on its 2 million service sector employees to take part in global climate strike actions next month wherever possible in a tweet sent out Monday, CommonDreams has reported.
While not a formal call to strike as proposed by the British University College Union last week, the call is a significant move by a labor organization the size of Verdi.
Youth climate activist Greta Thunberg hailed the decision on Twitter and German activist Luisa Neubauer celebrated the move while also calling on other trade unions to follow Verdi's example.
