Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 4222 representing support staff in the Thames Valley School District, London, Ontario, have set a strike vote date of September 9th, Global News reports.
The union, which represents the districts library workers, secretaries, custodians, and IT staff among others called for the vote as central negotiations between the CUPE’s Ontario School Board Council of Unions (OSBCU), the Council of Trustees’ Associations (CTA) and the province.
The union hopes to avoid a strike, but feels that they have not been dealt with in good faith by the province's Progressive Conservative government. Previous bargaining sessions have looked to force deep cuts to wages, benefits, sick leave, and benefits while layoffs that began in the spring have continued through the summer.
