Public school elementary teachers and staff in Ontario have voted by a whopping 98% to authorize a strike, CP24 reports.
While neither the government nor the union seem to want to discuss negotiations publicly, wages seem to be a sticking point, with provincial legislation known as Bill 124 hanging over negotiations. Bill 124 was introduced by Premier Doug Ford's Progressive Conservative government over the summer and would place caps on public employee raises, a move, the union argues, that would undermine the very basis of negotiations.
Union members are also concerned about the future of full day kindergarten.
