Mitch Freedman, Advocate for Librarians, is Feeling Better

The inspiration for this Union Library Workers blog was the presidency of  Mitch Freedman--ALA President in 2002-2003.

Dr. Freedman's  Special ALA Presidential Task Force on Better Salaries & Pay Equity was part of his Campaign for America’s Librarians. The Task Force developed a very complete “toolkit” filled with resources such as key messages about the campaign, training guides, a bibliography and success stories from around the country. This toolkit continues to be used at national, regional, and state conferences to train library employees and others to effectively advocate for increased status, better salaries, and pay equity.

The Toolkit is now in its 6th edition:

Advocating for Better Salaries Toolkit, 6th Edition

Dr. Freedman has just reported on Facebook that he has been released from the hospital after an illness and is feeling better. This reminded me that all readers of Union Library Workers owe gratitude to him for his commitment to library workers' better pay and working conditions.

Dr. Freedman was honored with the ALA Lippincott Award in 2014.
