No date has yet been set, but last week faculty at the College of DuPage voted to authorize a strike after negotiations went into mediation, CBS Chicago reports.
Faculty are upset that the school is not moving to fix a three year old pay freeze that has led to an arbitrary promotion process that faculty say is not grounded in current research while also piling on additional duties without compensation. Additionally, the union says the school cut summer wages by $5,000 for full-time faculty.
Both sides say they are looking to avoid an actual walkout, but school administrators have already begun advertising for 143 scabs to teach courses in the event of a strike, hoping to take advantage of precariously employed adjunct professors.
