Students on the Hyderabad campus of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences received the news that all academic activity was being suspended at the school and they were to vacate the campus by 5pm Monday according to The News Minute.
The administration has ruled that the campus closure will be indefinite, stating that the campus will only reopen "once normalcy is restored.
The move came after a week of student protests in which students physically blocked entrance to school buildings and protested changes to housing and meal fees. Recent changes at the university required all fees to be paid up front, a barrier for many students who rely on financial aid to attend school or who have utilized repayment plans in the past.
Students also say they are being over charged for housing at a school that is located on the outskirts of Hyderabad in Turkayamjal.
