Libraries impacted by pending strike in Sunnyvale CA

Members of the Sunnyvale Employees Association, which includes public library workers, who have not received a raise in five years, prepare to strike on May 1st.  The Sunnyvale Public Library posted an announcement on its website informing library users that hours will be curtailed.  City managers have filed an injunction against the union.

Happy May Day!

The previous post, as depressing as it is, serves notice that the labor movement is just as important as it ever was.  In fact, it is increasingly becoming ever more important in this age of austerity, cut backs, and outright attacks on workers, both unionized and non-unionized.  With that in mind, take a moment to remember the sacrifices that workers have made over the years to get where we are today and don't forget that the fight isn't over.  If there's a May Day march or rally in your area, get to it and get involved!  And if there isn't, now is a good time to get one organized.
