Education Week: Supreme Court declines to hear case on union dues refund

 Education Week reports that the U.S. Supreme Court has declined the appeal of several court case brought by public employees looking for refunds on collective-bargaining fees following the Courts now infamous 2018 Janus ruling.

The decision is being hailed as a victory by public sector unions, though it should be noted that the dismissals allow the Court to avoid ruling on the cases merits for the time being.

Ballotpedia: Third Circuit rejects appeal of class action suit over union fees

 Earlier this month, a three judge panel of the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's ruling that dismissed the case Bethany LaSpina v. SEIU Pennsylvania State Council et al. ruling that LaSpina did not have standing to bring the class action case seeking a refund of union dues, Ballotpedia has reported.

Supreme Court to Review Case that Threatens Public Sector Unions

The Supreme Court has decided to hear a case that challenges the longstanding practice of unions to collect dues from all bargaining unit members regardless of an individual's decision to join or not join the union.  The case was brought to the Court by "right-to-work" advocates.
