Vancouver Public Library Trio at Workers Out! Conference

MONTREAL — If Peter DeGroot, Doug Klohn and Tara Robertson find themselves singing “Solidarity Forever” this week, the words will have added meaning.

The trio of library workers, all members of CUPE 391 (Vancouver Public Library) are in Montreal to attend Workers Out!: Making the Difference, an international conference of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) union members.

Workers Out! concentrates on developing an international strategic plan to help our unions worldwide in taking up the struggle for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the workplace and in the broader society.

The workshops build towards the development of understanding issues faced around the world; of an analysis of methods of organising used to advance LGBT issues; of an appreciation of the international structures and a series of goals and strategies to further the international movement’s work to end discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
