Halifax: Saint Mary’s Faculty Votes to Strike [includes librarians]

Saint Mary’s University professors [full-time permanent professors, full-time temporary professors and librarians] have voted in favour of striking if further negotiations with the Halifax university don’t pan out.

Larry Haiven, president of Saint Mary’s University Faculty Union, said last week’s vote, held from Oct. 4-6, was an unprecedented move by the union’s members.

"The faculty union has been in existence for 32 years and there’s never been a strike," Mr. Haiven said Saturday evening. "In fact, there has never even been a strike vote, as far as I know."
