Richmond Library Workers Ratify Agreement [Richmond, B.C. Canada]

Richmond library workers ratify agreement

RICHMOND — March 16: members of CUPE Local 3966, representing Richmond’s library workers, ratified an agreement reached with the Richmond Public Library.

The five-year contract expires December 31, 2011. It includes pay increases, improved extended health benefits and improved group life benefits. Both parties will meet during the term of the agreement to discuss a new job evaluation plan.

“We were happy that we started moving in the right direction on pay equity,” said Marie McKee, president of CUPE Local 3966. “But there are still workers in the Library who need wages brought up to a fair level. Our book shelvers are the second-lowest paid in the region.”

CUPE Local 3966 represents 150 library workers employed in four branches in Richmond. The contract goes to the Library Board for ratification on April 2.
