San Diego School LayOffs Include Librarians

Nearly one in 10 educators at the San Diego Unified School District will receive a layoff notice this week under a proposal adopted by trustees yesterday that would slash $80 million from its $1.2 billion operating budget.
The jobs up for elimination include 416 elementary teachers, 198 middle, high school and alternative education teachers, more than 60 counseling positions, 28 nursing jobs and 15 librarian positions. Any credentialed teacher hired past September 2002 can expect to receive a notice.

See San Diego Education Association for Union actions.
