Traditionally, management sits on one side of the negotiating table, and faculty on the other. Senate Bill 5 would reclassify higher education faculty as “management,” preventing them from participating in collective bargaining.
Librarian, professor, and member of the Akron professors’ union, Steve Aby, says Issue 2 would be a “death sentence” for higher education unions.
“Once our contract runs out, at all of these unionized universities we will never again be able to collectively bargain,” Aby says.
