Chicago Public Library update
The situation in Chicago is heating up. Mayor Rahm Emanuel is accusing the union representing library workers, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 31, of using libraries as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the city. Emanuel does not explain why he thinks librarians would want to harm the library system but he is apparently sure that that is the case. The union, on the other hand, is unhappy about Emanuel's manouevering and is concerned about 176 laid-off library workers and reduced hours.
