A vote for unionization at William P. Faust Public Library in Westland, Michigan has resulted in a 13-13 split, with 4 eligible voters abstaining. Three additional ballots have not yet been tallied as those voters (all department heads) may not be eligible The vote was for representation by AFSCME. A previous vote to affiliate with AFSCME ended in failure but was ultimately over-turned after the union successfully proved that management had fired pro-union workers in order to sway the vote.
The case will now go to the Michigan Employee Relations Commission for a hearing.
