Protest at Grand Rapids Public Library
Members of Grand Rapids Employees Independent Union staged a protest outside of the main branch of Grand Rapids Public Library on Tuesday in response to budget cuts and the proposed elimination of 18 positions. In response to statements by union members that the elimination of these positions will result in decreased quality of library service, the president of the library board expressed his hopes that library service will remain unchanged. The union had proposed alternative cost-cutting measures that were rejected by the board.
