'Staffless Libraries' to be Introduced in Ireland

Plans for "staffless libraries" are underway in several counties in Ireland. Extended hours would be implemented at the participating libraries, with staffing levels remaining the same. During the hours in which there are no staff present, patrons would able to engage in self-service activities, including using the internet and borrowing and returning library items. A spokesperson from IMPACT, the union representing library workers, stated that this new plan does not have support from the union.
