Herald, Maroon: U of C Graduate students to picket June 3-5

Both the Chicago Maroon and the Hyde Park Herald report that the Graduate Student Union (GSU) at the University of Chicago plan to participate in industrial action in the 10th week of the Spring quarter.

Depending on what nature the action takes--picketing is planned outside of academic buildings though a leaked email seems to be the only evidence of the further steps of cancelling class, cancelling meetings, and refusing to answer emails during the action--the timing may impact end of quarter grades for undergraduates and may even impact graduation if the action drags on for more than a week.

The action comes as administration at U of C continues to refuse to recognize GSU after its 2017 NCLRB-certified election, failing to even name GSU in campus wide emails about the impending action.

GSU is supported by other unions and labor organizations on and off the U of C campus as well as a number of undergraduate student organizations including the Student Government Organization and the Organization of Black Students.
