Elaine Harger -Labor Librarian-Honored with Herb Biblo Outstanding Leadership Award for Social Justice and Equality

Elaine Harger is the inaugural honoree of the Herb Biblo Outstanding Leadership Award for Social Justice and Equality conferred by the American Library Association Social Responsibilities Round Table. Elaine's work as a librarian and engaged activist has many parts. Here at Union Library Workers we highlight a few of her labor-related activities: * Her career as a librarian began at the Harry Van Arsdale, Jr. School of Labor Studies, a branch of Empire State College in New York City. *"Talking Union" column in Library Journal. *N. Y. C. Labor History Map, co-authored with the Map Committee. New York: New York Labor History Association, 1995. *New York Labor History Association – executive board member (1993 to 2003). *University and College Labor Education Association. *United Federation of Teachers, AFT, AFL-CIO – chapter chair (Nov. 2002 to 2004); member (1997 to 2004) *Editor of this blog Union Library Workers *Author of several articles in Progressive Librarian journal. *“Sticking with the Union After Janus” Union Library Workers 2017-2018 Report by Elaine Harger. *Union representative to the United University Professions-American Federation of Teachers from 1989 to 1995.
