Gary (IN) library workers face cuts

Workers at Gary (IN) Public Library say that proposed cuts to their library system will put many of them out of work, impoverish those that remain, and amounts to an outright attack on their union (AFSCME Local 2760).  The proposed lay-offs will target union activists, demoting some to part-time positions and thus ineligible to carry a union card with AFSCME.

While this attack on library workers in Gary should be opposed, I'd also like to point out that you don't need a membership card from a business union to act like a union member.  In other words, solidarity amongst all workers (card-carrying union or not) is our best weapon in these situations and non-union workers should remember that attacks on unions bring standards down across the board.
