University of California librarians in tough negotiations

Academic librarians in the University of California system have been facing some pretty tough treatment by UC management in their current negotiations.  The librarians, who are represented by University Council - American Federation of Teachers, are being denied their salary increases in order to coerce their agreement to a contract extension and restructuring of retirement benefits.  These salary increases are governed by merit reviews and many of the affected librarians have already passed the peer review process.

The librarians are currently engaged in a postcard campaign to UC administration, a tactic that was successfully employed the last time that UC administrators tried something similar to this.  Check out this link for more information.
