AFSCME filing unfair labor practices charges against University of California

In a press release last week, AFSCME announced three separate filings of unfair labor practices against the University of California. Through the charges, AFSCME Local 3299, is demanding that UC end its practice of replacing employees with outsourcing companies.

The unfair labor practices filings specifically allege that the UC system has signed contracts with private companies, bypassing negotiations with workers and their union as required by law.

According to AFSCME the moves by UC is just  the latest in a long history of replacing long term, union employees with contracting companies that pay far lower wages and have a history of violating their workers rights as demonstrated by both a California State Audit and an internal audit of the UC system.

AFSCME Local 3299 has already organized a system wide speakers boycott, and the union's Unfair Labor Practices committee has convened to consider possible next steps.
